authentic, independent and with a fine sense - this is how markus works in the vineyard and cellar. he sets correspondingly high standards for himself and his wines. a certain playfulness is not neglected either.
it is important to markus to feel and work out the typical character of each grape variety. the result is pure and honest wines that flow into the glass with clear varietal typicity. this is what the name markus IRO stands for - just as you know him and his wines.
among the approximately 70 % red grape varieties that thrive in our vineyards, we find domestic and international grapes. markus particularly likes to work with st. laurent, an autochthonous grape, i.e. native to austria. st. laurent is a fine and sensitive variety that requires special attention, and markus devotes himself to it with dedication and great curiosity. in addition, zweigelt and blaufränkisch play a major role at our winery, which are already much better known internationally as likewise typically austrian grape varieties.
pinot noir, merlot and cabernet franc are the three international red grape varieties that we grow and bottle as single varietals.
